Announcement on Motorsport Ireland website

Limerick Motor Club would like a member to become Road Safety Officer. Interested members should contact the club secretary before the end of June, the successful member will be announced at the July club meeting.

The Role of Road Safety Officer

The role of the club road safety officer is to ensure that the minimum level of activity specified in relation to Motorsport Ireland’s road safety initiative is implemented. He / she should also explore / consider other activities which might be used to promote the roads safety message while at the same time promoting motorsport and the motor club. These activities could be undertake solely by the motor club or in conjunction with others, could be stand alone events or could be organised as part of another event / festival etc.
The club road safety officer should be a good communicator and have the ability to liaise with the various relevant bodies.

  • As a minimum, and in order to ensure a coordinated / standard approach, motor clubs are expected to ensure:
  • All competition vehicles carry the road safety decal as issued by MI.
  • Standard road safety advert as supplied by MI carried in event program.

On rally events, signage carrying the road safety message as issued by MI, is erected on road sections in the vicinity of the event HQ / stages.

The club road safety officer should also endeavour to build / develop / improve relationships between the club and bodies such as the Gardai, the County Council (perhaps via the Council Road Safety Officer), the Fire Services, RSA etc. by engaging in activities with these bodies to promote road safety. Improved relationships with these bodies and the community in general, can only serve to assist clubs when organising events generally - in particular when applying for road closing orders which are becoming ever more difficult to obtain.
