High Drama for Barrett on day one
All enjoyed sunny Sunday
Willie Barrett was taking his Civic to the limit on day one of the Carlow hillclimb held in glorious sunny conditions. At the first chicane he needed some extra space so he climbed the bank at the left and proceeded on two wheels down the road dropping safely onto four wheels after a few meters. He finished third in class 2 and 12th overall.
Declan Gannon (BMW M3) finished 15th overall and was the sole entry in class 10.
Ben took his borrowed BMW M3 to 10th overall and fourth in class 3B
Father and son James and Jamie O'Rourke sharing the family Fiat Punto finished fourth and seventh in class 8 with the son ahead. They had spent the day having close shaves at the chicanes.
Also working at the event were MI safety office Kieran Ambrose and chicane judge of fact Gerard O'Connor.
Day two Sunday led to one change in the club's driver line up Joe Clifford was driving Willie Barrett's Civic, Declan Gannon chose not to drive Sunday. Gerard was on flag location 3 an interesting tight right where drivers were choosing a variety of lines.
Ben O'Brien improved to eight overall and third in class 3B. Willie Barrett was 12th overall and fourth in class 2. Jamie O'Rourke finished fifth in class 8 with his father James only 1.64 seconds behind. Joe Clifford ended up keeping the two O'Rourkes apart.
