Fastnet Rally

The Fastnet Rally in Bantry organised by Skibbereen and District Motor club was the final round of the Triton Showers National Rally Championship.

Nigel Roche co driven by Cork’s Andrew Cronin(Honda Civic) took Triton series Class 16A by a single point with a fifth place finish , that result carries a nomination for the Billy Coleman award

Keith Moriarty co driving for Cavan’s Gary Kiernan were up to third pace by stage 6 but retired on the penultimate stage with a broken rear differential.

Evan Maher's first tarmac experience was short lived, retiring at the start line of his third stage (Stage 6 of the main rally) with differential failure, Evea did enjoy the two stages he finished. Evan was using the ex Ed Walsh 1600cc two wheel drive Subaru Impreza  and was co driven by Brian Meade.

Amongst other retirees were Trevor and Graham Roche with a ball joint problem. The other Keiths had a better day, Keith Lyons co driven by Brian Doherty finished third in class 5 in a Fiesta R5, Keith McCarthy co drove Neil Phelan to ninth in class 14.

Desmond Roche co driven by Mairead Duane took first in class 1.

The historic class was won by John O’Connor and Michael Breen.
